Epper GmbH

Epper GmbH, now managed as a family business in its third generation, is a trading company specializing in woodworking machinery. The company’s areas of activity include the sale of new and used machines, tools, power tools, extraction systems, compressed air technology, fastening equipment, as well as associated delivery, training, and after-sales service. Epper is also known for its well-stocked spare parts warehouse, sharpening service, daily shipping, expert advice, customer support post-purchase, and attractive financing options—all of which constitute the company’s commitment to excellent service.

The family business was founded in 1935 by Heinrich Okken on Trierer Straße in Bitburg as a specialist shop for tools and steel goods. During the Christmas period of 1944, the business suffered almost total destruction of its inventory. As a result, sales were relocated to an old barrack on the marketplace. Between 1947 and 1948, new business premises were established on Trierer Straße.

In July 1951, the company was acquired by son-in-law Hubert Epper, a trained merchant, and his wife Hildegard Epper (née Okken). They changed the original name 'Heinrich Okken' to 'Okken Maschinen.' A milestone in the company’s development was achieved regarding product quality, as Hubert Epper placed great emphasis on carefully selecting suppliers.

By shifting and expanding the inventory to include joinery supplies, woodworking and sawmill machinery, building fittings, and special tools for wood and metalworking, Hubert Epper succeeded in gaining a reputation beyond the local region and securing several general agencies for both German and international suppliers. The need for more sales space became urgent, leading to new construction on Dauner Straße in Bitburg. The new residential and commercial building was moved into in 1967 and featured a 700 m² sales and exhibition area. Another milestone was the introduction of after-sales service, which remains a key component of the company’s quality policy today.

In 1977, following his successful studies in mechanical engineering, Hubert Epper Jr. (Dipl.-Ing. FH) joined the company. In 1982, together with his parents, he established the limited partnership 'Hubert Epper Jr. KG,' joining as a general partner while his parents became limited partners. The company focused on sales, planning, manufacturing, delivery, installation, and service for products and systems in the wood industry. Hubert Epper Jr. brought further economic success, particularly thanks to his keen interest and solid expertise in planning air technology systems for chip and dust extraction, as well as the planning, equipping, and heating of new workshops.

Increasing customer demands and inadequate parking in the city center necessitated a move to the newly developed industrial estate 'Auf Merlick' in Bitburg. In 1982, Hubert Epper Jr. KG constructed an office building and a 500 m² hall in the industrial area, which was occupied in 1984. In 1986, he made a significant step toward efficiency by introducing computerization. A self-taught IT user, he leveraged computers to greatly enhance the speed and quality of data processing, enabling the acquisition of a larger customer base and improved customer support.

On January 1, 1988, Hubert Epper Jr. KG took over the entire business operations of Okken Maschinen as a further step in streamlining operations. The company continued to expand, building a second hall in 1990. That same year, Mrs. Hi
